MegaFon, Yakutia team up in building line from Europe to Asia

MOSCOW, Jan 29 (PRIME) -- The Russian republic of Sakha (Yakutia) has become the first region to sign a cooperation agreement with mobile operator MegaFon on the Arctic Connect project, under which an undersea connection line from Europe to Asia will be built, the operator said on Friday in a statement.

“The cooperation agreement is aimed at partnership in construction of a side line to provide people and companies of the coastal areas of the republic of Sakha (Yakutia) with high-speed Internet and high-quality connection. The Yakutia government will support the project in coordination and administration matters,” MegaFon said.

The operator will also develop the republic’s digital infrastructure and expand coverage of towns and cities with mobile connection and broadband access to the Internet with mobile digital technologies of the UMTS, GSM, and LTE standards.
